How to Serve Kids Sweet Potatoes with Skins

There are SO many ways to eat sweet potatoes – in tacos, chilis, stir frys, as a side dish, for dessert, and even in smoothies! We are big believers in leaving the sweet potato skin on for both kids and adults. The skin contains beneficial nutrients and fiber, so let’s do everything we can to encourage kids to eat the peel!

How to serve kids sweet potatoes? We have found that this is one of the best ways to serve kids sweet potatoes. Sweet potato rounds or quarters are an easy finger food for toddlers, pose little choking hazard, and are loaded with great flavor and nutrition.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Serving Sweet Potatoes with Skins

Start by making easy roasted sweet potatoes; cook whole sweet potatoes in a 400ºF oven for 40-60 minutes, or until easily pierced with a fork (larger sweet potatoes take longer to cook).

Allow sweet potatoes to cool.

Using a serrated knife, slice into rounds.

Sprinkle with cinnamon or pumpkin spice and serve. Adding sweet spices helps to make sweet potatoes even sweeter for kids.

We hope that your toddler loves these sweet potato bites as much as ours do! Next time, have them help you make the recipe; learn how to involve kids in the kitchen with our cooking with kids series!
