Culinary Tips for the Best Summer Quinoa Pizza
- Rinse your quinoa: This removes the natural coating (saponin), which can taste bitter.
- Cut vegetables evenly: Uniform pieces ensure everything cooks at the same rate.
- Sauté for flavor: Taking time to soften the vegetables builds a strong flavor base. Don’t stir constantly. You want the vegetables to sit still on the pan to brown.
- Toast the quinoa: Briefly sautéing quinoa before adding liquid enhances its nutty flavor.
- Keep the lid on: Trapping steam is key for properly cooking the quinoa.
- Don’t overcook: Once the quinoa is tender and the ring pops out, turn off the heat to avoid overcooking
- Cheese at the end: Add cheese after cooking to keep it melty and prevent sticking. If you want it extra melty and a bit brown, pop it under the broiler!
Ingredient Swaps & Substitutions
- Quinoa: Swap with another quick cooking whole grain. You can find 10 minute varieties of farro, bulgur, and more.
- Marinara Sauce: Use a store-bought sauce with ingredients you recognize or try your hand at our delicious recipe!
- Vegetables: Mix and match based on seasonality or what you have on hand (mushrooms, spinach, eggplant, etc.).
- Garlic Clove: Sub ¼ teaspoon granulated garlic.
- Broth: Use vegetable or chicken broth depending on preference. Water can also be used in a pinch.
- Cheese: Mozzarella is classic for pizza flavor, but any melty cheese will work!
