Culinary Tips for the Best Dark Chocolate Banana Bites

  • Heat the chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring between each round. Chocolate can burn, so don’t overheat!
  • Sprinkle the toasted coconut and crushed macadamia nuts on while the chocolate is still warm; otherwise, they won’t stick.
  • Extra chocolate in the bowl? Don’t wash it away—dip additional fresh fruit in it!
  • In a rush? Pop them in the freezer to set.

Ingredient Swaps & Substitutions

  • Bananas: Bananas should be mostly yellow, but with minimal spots.
  • Dark Chocolate: We recommend using at least 70% dark chocolate when you can find it, but our favorite Ghirardelli chips are actually 60% dark.
  • Toasted Coconut & Macadamia Nuts: Unsweetened shredded coconut works best. Swap macadamia nuts for almonds, pecans, or walnuts if needed.

Dark Chocolate Dipped Banana Bite Variations

Instead of—or in addition to—toasted coconut and macadamia nuts, try other toppings. Crushed pistachios, cacao nibs, flaky sea salt, or freeze-dried fruit powder all add flavor without sacrificing nutrition.

FAQ Questions:

Do I have to freeze the bananas before dipping them in chocolate?

Freezing the banana slices first helps the chocolate set quickly and keeps the bananas firm while dipping. It also creates a delicious frozen treat with a crisp chocolate shell.

Absolutely! Dark, milk, semi-sweet, or white chocolate all work well. Choose your favorite depending on how sweet you want the banana bites to be. Dark chocolate is a popular option because it balances the natural sweetness of the bananas

Yes. If you don’t have macadamia nuts, try chopped almonds, pecans, walnuts, pistachios, or cashews. You can also leave out the nuts entirely if you have a nut allergy and simply coat the bites with shredded coconut.

These banana bites can be a healthier dessert option since they’re made with fruit, chocolate, and wholesome toppings like coconut and macadamia nuts. They offer natural sweetness and satisfying crunch while being portion-friendly.
