Culinary Tips for the Best Roasted Asparagus
Combining the oil, salt, and spices together first ensures even flavor distribution.
Do not overcrowd the pan. Overcrowding causes steaming which will lead to mushy asparagus!
Asparagus stems vary greatly in size. Thicker pieces will take longer to cook, so keep your eye on them!
If the stems are super thin, broil them instead of roasting. They will cook super fast and that is the only way to get browned ends without overcooking.
If adding the optional cheese, add it during the last minute of cooking so that it melts but doesn’t burn.
Squeeze fresh lemon juice on roasted asparagus after cooking for a pop of bright flavor.
Ingredient Swaps & Substitutions

FAQ Questions:
How do you know when roasted asparagus is done?
Roasted asparagus is done when the spears are tender when pierced with a fork and have lightly browned, caramelized edges. Thinner spears cook faster than thicker ones, so check them a few minutes before the recommended cooking time.
Should I trim asparagus before roasting?
Yes. Trim or snap off the tough, woody ends before roasting. This helps the asparagus cook evenly and improves its texture.
Can I make roasted asparagus ahead of time?
Yes. Roasted asparagus can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat it in the oven, air fryer, or enjoy it cold in salads, grain bowls, or wraps.
Can I use thick or thin asparagus for this recipe?
